What are the conditions like in the area? I have been out of state working for the lsat few weeks and should be returning to Mill town on Sunday. Is there any snow and/or ice yet to play on the ponds?

This probably pretty much sums it up www.mainesledder.com/index.php?page=snowdepth. It is still not enough to bring the sled out. I was hoping to sneak out this weekend to some secret spots up north, but there still is not enough.

Its going to warm up again over the next few days so what ever we have will probably disappear. Still making ice at night though. I haven't heard how thick most ice is yet but I saw a guy out on the ice at a dead water, probably not more than 3 feet deep, in Troy yesterday, so it must be a few inches thick in places by now.

Well I made it home.. What a disappointment flying over the state and seeing green everywhere!!! Very little snow at all. Oh well it is staying cold at night and hopefully we can run some of the small ponds soon.

Hey, you were down around my neck of the woods . . . what were you doing down there EH?

Incidentally, the fact that there was a guy on a sled playing on ice doesn't say too much for folks in Troy!;) :D

He wasnt on a sled, it looked almost like he was Ice Fishing, but he had no traps. He was chipping through the ice and had several long poles with him with orange flagging on them. It was off rt 9. I have no idea w.t.f. he was doing.

My sister-in-law lives in Unity just below the Irving on a side street. The sled trail runs right behind their house.

Hmmm . . . you got me as to what he was doing . . . setting some poles in place to make it easier to get bait fish? I'm not really sure.

Ah . . . would that be the Wesley Road? We do in fact groom right behind the Irving and then come down on to Wesley Road before crossing the bridge. The Irving always makes a good spot to stop and get a drink and snack while grooming.

Yup. Wesley Rd. I've been trying to convice my brother in law to buy a sled, but he's the only one working and they have two young boys. He has no $$$ or time to ride right now. They go up to Sherman occasionally like I do and we all ride from the Father in laws compound.

Hopefully they don't have any water or mold issues then . . . homes on the Wesley Road are infamous for water issues.

And you should convince him to get a sled . . . especially with the trail being right there . . . of course no riding last year isn't exactly a stunning endorsement for sledding in the area, right?

There basment is suprisingly dry. Yea his yard was quite wet to one side, with water running through it to the ditch. No wonder with the pond so close to the houses there. He had some yard work done and the drainage has improved greatly.
