View Full Version : Sunday 30 March ride in Jackman

I suppose this thread needs to get started before Sunday.

Who is in on the Sunday group ride in Jackman and where do you suggest we meet at. Seeing most of us are staying in Jackman I suggest we meet in Jackman someplace.

We could meet at the airport, club house, Gulf gas station, or at Jackman Power Sports.

The next question is what would be a good time to meet for everyone?

I suggest the airport or the club house at 08:00 or 08:30 but I am willing to work with everyone on this.

We also need to decide on where we want to ride and how far we want to ride. How about this route. Jackman (ITS 89) and (ITS 88 ), Pittson Farm (Pittson Farm Trail), NE Carry (Moosehead Trail), Rockwood (ITS 88 ) back ITS 89 into Jackman.

This is a big loop and may be to much for those that want to be on the road heading home by 3 or 5. I am open to suggestions.

I'll probably trailer to the starting point. So we need a parking lot. Club house has breakfast and parking lot. Trail back of club up toward Canada is a great day starter. usually freshly groomed.

Good suggestion. They usually groom that the every night on the weekends.

I agree with Steve. Meet at the clubhouse. Alt 89 to the border is sick. The rest of the loop sounds great for the guys who haven't been to Jackman. That sounds like it will be right around 150-160 miles. Should be no problem for anyone to get back in time.

I want to go so bad but I have to stick around because my 2 daughters are coming home from college and bringing my little cousin(22) with them and they all want to drag me up to Sugarloaf for some Reggae Music Fest thing - I think its just a excuse to drink for them - but seeing as they been at that stage where hanging with me isn't "cool" UNLESS they are going sledding,ATVing or cruising on the back of my HD I might as well take advantage of it, I get to snowboard with the kids and check out all the hot babes that are young enough to be my kids -- GOD it sucks getting old-lol-Happy sledding to those that are going and PLEASE bring a camera so you can post some photos for me to see as I will be going up either during the week or next weekend.

We made it!

Over 600 miles. In 2 half days and one full day of riding.

We saw a moose, dozens of deer, 2 locomotives, got stuck on a mountain, clambed and summited another mountain, and put in a 300 mile day.

Attrol, strangeland2, and gearhd6 are awesome guys to ride with. Tynan, keep your eyes on the road!:wallbash:

Tynan19's ride with a Mt Kineo backdrop. No we didn't climb that sucker.
308

Tynan's ride stuck on Boundary Bald Mountain. We didn't make that one.
310

Our rides at the top of Coburn Mountain. We made it up that one.
311

GearHd6, strangeland2 and Attrol on Chesuncook Lake after the blizzard.
309

Hello big boy. How'd you get out here in the Allagash?

Find this place and eat here. They serve those burgers above. Awesome ride to it and pretty cool place to sit and relax. Even if I did almost forget to pay.

Ahh what a pretty orange blob. Never figure out why I always take these picture but i cant help it
http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg55/strangeland2/mainesledder038.jpg

First picture on friday. As i was taking this picture I was stressing I was going to over heat. Guys behind us start yelling and fortunately I pulled the flap out of the track and the temp came down almost immediately. The flap kept getting sucked into the track though and had to do the zip tie thing in the other picture. Worked like a champ the rest of the trip.

Did you notice as big a difference as I did, hitting bumps while following the rider forward sleds? Oh yeah for those who are interested I'll be putting up a post on the Reggae Fest info tomorrow.-----

I have got to say Jeff, you were pretty impressive this weekend on that XLT. I would have been toast, well I was toast when you borrowed my sled.

To answer your question Mainesled, all of the group could ride. Some trails we never went under 80. It was my first time riding the REV hard and it is unbelievable how much better you can ride on it. On Sat one trail was beat, 2 ft moguls and stutter bumps. I never went under 60. I was in shock.

We did get a kick out of the the guys on the revs thinking they were the only people that could ride over bumps. http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii181/JoeAnnK/smilies/Laughing_001a.gif

While a certain rev rider was commenting on how bad it must suck to be riding riding the kitty said kitty rider had to point out the kitty was in front of them and not nearly as beat up. In all fairness though said kitty rider is under 30 years old haha.

That is what I am afraid of. So who is in for next year? We will stay at Long Pond and ride from there all weekend. The place we stayed at slept 14 people and had 2 huge bathrooms. I want to keep going though. Ride to The County and back through the Allagash.

Whatever you've got in mind i'm up for it. This past weekend was a blast! Everyone rode great together.

I'm done for this season though, my sled is in about 4000 pieces. Its time to go through it top to bottom, sent the rear shocks out today to get rebuilt, rear skids out, clutches are apart, changed the chaincase oil and adjusted the chain. I'll do a compression test just to make sure everything is still good, its got 8600 miles on it now.

Tynan19
Apr 01, 2008, 06:45 PM

Hey Guys-
What a weekend you had!!! man I was biting my lip all weekend when it all fell apart for me, and then to have the offer come in from GearHd for a lift up right after my other half made plans....definitely looking forward to meeting everyone next year for a trip up north, and maybe some local riding too if we get another decent winter! From the speeds you guys clocked it looks like I might need a bit more seat time before joining you, but I'm getting more comfortable on my XP with every mile. (must have something to do with that broken shoulder 2 years ago on my maiden ride on my SRX!-LOL:wallbash:)
I have a good frind in Western MA who rides October Mtn state park, and we have been talking about getting VT passes for Woodford area, for day trips next year. Overnights have to be spaced with the kids and all, not to mention budget, but riding every weekend I can do if I do day trips too.
Great pics! If elwin figures out a way to post them all that will be great!
Getting ready to prep for summer storage myself- baseball starts next week. It's painful putting teh machine away-I think I did 650 miles this year. You did half that in a weekend!!!

It's really not too bad, it just gets all of the bad press. As long as you're smart and go there realizing the trails are going to be packed it's a good time. Riding for Snodeo isn't so bad, if you plan it right.... Saturday is really the only "bad" day if you want to trail ride.

We go up Wed so we have a couple days before to get some riding in.

Saturday we'll just do the Pancake Breakfast, Poker Run & one of the pig roasts.

Then Sunday probably a quick ride up to Stratton/Eustis for lunch and then back to load up.

We've got a rookie going with us this year... always fun to see a 1st-timer's reaction to the number of sleds and all the mayhem.

And if you do ride on Saturday, the ride out of town will be good, but when you return that evening, expect beat up trails with the worst being the closest to town.

I have not come over here to this site in a long time. I kind of lose interest when there is not snow on the ground. I have other summer activities I am busy doing. It is good to see we still have a good group here.

I will not do a group ride in Rangeley during the snodeo weekend. If you guys want to don one during the snodeo you will do it without me. As Offshore said "been there done that" and have no desire to do it again. I see no need to do a group ride during the snodeo weekend. In Rangeley on snodeo weekend is best save for families and not group rides like we do. The best kind of riding on Rangeley's snodeo weekend will be anyplace but the Rangely area. Someplace like Jackman would be idea for that time frame.

I am all in for the tramway ride up the Chamberlain lakes again like we did last year. That one of my favorite rides.

Well if we all stay at Long Pond in Jackman we could make that ride although I want to ride somewhere different this year as we spent a lot of time in Jackman last winter. I wouldn't mind a ride in the Shin Pond and North to The upper County area.

We could stay in Millinocket. I stayed at Katahdin Cabins last year and the place was pretty nice. You can park you sleds in front of you cabin door.

I do! I've ridden from Carthage, ME to Caribou, rode one full day in Caribou, then back to Carthage in 5 days. Put on 1200 miles that trip.

Nice Jeff, makes it a lot more interesting. Of course we need to slow down on the bumps but it is still a good time.

whats "snodeo" ? is that a time and area that a 1st timer like myself needs to avoid???

I want to do that ride some time. Carthage up, maybe even to Fort Kent. The Island Falls are is nice too. Stayed with snowgo666 and his clan last year for Feb break. Place was connected condos, timeshares, they rent them. Has an indoor pool. No night life, but that's not what it's all about.

Sometimes it is Steve. Hey Brad they snodeo is basically a winter carnival on sleds. The town of Rangeley has sled races, rides, demos, fireworks and other festivities. There will be a lot of sleds in the town and surrounding areas during the event.

Snodeo is a good event if you really love snowmobiles and go to it realizing you won't get a ton of riding time during the weekend.

Casey, I can count the nights you and I have spent out partying while sledding, on one hand. Both of those nights resulted in you trying to climb into the wrong bed, late getting up, and me trying to cough up a lung from reflux. Not exactly a poster for party-central.

Ha that is why I ride with you. You keep me in line.

Of course we're still riding when most begin partying. Up with the sun and done when we're done. Generally 200 - 250 miles per day.

Steve,

Whose bed was Casey trying to climb into? There's something going on North of the Hudson River that we don't know about! LOL!

Gotta love a little "night mission"...

The Kid & I headed out at about 9:00 Saturday night last year during Snodeo to put on a few extra miles... we got back about 10:30 & walked into the motel room with frost having formed on the inside of our helmets. (ok, so it WAS -10F)

His mother just looked at us & shook her head... "You're BOTH nuts"

But... the only thing we ran into the whole way was a groomer coming out of Oquossoc.

Steve,

Put yourself in my shoes, do you think I could be comfortable with a "friend" of our ex-govnah, who tried to entice Casey into his bed, bringing up my rear?

I'm glad there's back rests that can be used to protect me some what! LOL!

Trust me, my a$$ is dragging, I can't wait until Tuesday and the Doc fixes this dam_ shoulder! I told him today he could cut it open up with a dull butter knife, just give me a stick to chew on while he did the job!

Just joking about you bringing up the rear!
