Site software or site going down

I have made a grave mistake. When I put this web site online I thought I had paid for the software to run this web site. I run several web sites so this was something I missed because of juggling to many web sites.

Your all wondering what this means and why I am bringing it up. I run several web sites but I do not have the funds at this time to purchase the software to keep this web site going. I would like to keep this web site going.

In order to keep this web site going and to keep it online we need to purchase the software and the price of the software is $160. If anyone has any ideas on how to raise $160 to keep us online then please share them with us.

If we do not come up with the money to purchase the software by 13 May then we will have to take the web site down.

I havent logged on here for a little while so i'm just getting to read this. This is terrible news. How longs the $160 keep you back online? This is a great site and i'd hate to see it go down like im sure others that come here often would hate to see that happen also. Lets come up with something.

Yeah same here, i'd donate something. Get some people to throw in a few bucks a piece and you're there. Maybe some more people will chime in before the 13th and we can figure something out.

The $160 buys the software and then it is only $30 a year for support. I can spring the $30 a year with no problem at all right now. I just can not come up with $160 right now for the initial purchase.

I agree, I really like this site, no BS here. Just basic sled talk and chit chat, cant beat that in my opnion.

Attroll, Have you ever thought about advertisements? I know you don't have any now thats one of the reasons I like this site. But if it's something you would do to raise some coin let me know, I'd be willing to put my company's ad here. Just a thought, anyways good luck with this, Henry

Yes I have thought about advertisements, but I do not want this site to be like the sledmaine site with all the advertisements on the front page (nothing against sledmaine). I have also thought about google advertisements but this web site is so small it would not bring in anything from google advertisements.

I am still trying to come up with something by the 13th. It is hard to justify keeping the web site online for just the selected few that come here. Granted we have a very good group here but I think we only have about 10 regulars. The only time we get a bunch of people coming over here it when sledmaine pisses people off when they do things on there web site with out warning and then they come here for a while until sled maine gives in and changes things back. I don't understand why they all bitch about sledmaine but they stay there. Oh well.

It'll suck to see this site go down but I to have noticed only about 10 regulars show up. I rarely ever stop over to the sledmaine site so I dont know of any of the BS that goes on over there. I'll never know why this site didnt take off more than it did, it seems set up very well and easy to navigate. I think everyone tried to get the word out on various other forums, it got a few here but not what I thought it would bring. I think theres a lot of people that are attracted by the politics and the flamings, this site hasnt offered that, which to me is a GOOD thing but I guess it doesnt draw the volume of users.

Clue us in on some of the other sites you run, maybe we'll check them out if this one goes down.

I have three other web sites. I don't know if you consider them cool or not.

We're gluttons for punishment . . . well that and it's a familiar site so even though in my own opinion the BBS site is not nearly as good as this site (easier photo uploads, better smileys, quicker for dial-up, etc.) I think folks return oftentimes to what they're used to and where they know their "buddies" will be hanging out . . . plus I hate to admit it, but some folks like the post count and idea that they're veterans (you know Rick -- it's all about the numbers. ;) :D Sorry, little bit of geocaching humor here folks . . . inside joke.)

I still check out this site every weekday, but to be honest it's pretty dead. Granted there isn't nearly the amount of BS and Rick is very responsive to any issues (i.e. I have yet to ever see any porn spam here), but for a lot of folks it boils down to going and staying at a more active site.

Rick has a great (and very active) BBS for geocachers at geocachingmaine.org -- folks there are very "verbal", but friendly and harmless for the most part.

Wow, it seems like your other sites have really taken off! Its to bad Maine Sledder didnt take off quite so well. I still believe the poor winters didnt help matters much. I know when the season is good im searching all over on the web for new sites like this.

PS.......some of us CANT go back to SLEDPOLESTEIN.COM because two Polestein lap dogs run the site and bow to pressure rather than be men and let members speak their minds. I would rather not be associated with that site if that is how they chose to conduct themselves. That site is like crack, it takes a long time to get clean, but once the fog clears you can see it for what it is, and your glad you quit that disgusting habit. I thought they were decent guys, but I guess you never really know someone. :)

I have not given up yet. I am getting ready to go on vacation next week. So I do not have the funds right now to purchase the software. I will be back around the first of June or sooner. Once I get settled back into things then I will see if I can swing the money to keep the web site online.

While I am on vacation I may close the web site down until I get back and make the finale decision.
