Rockabema Snow Rangers Patten,Northern Maine
Grooming 120 miles of trail thru 10
townships and two counties in the Katahdin region
1/15/10
All trails in the rockabema system are groomed and ready for the MLK day weekend.
ITS 85 from the 83/85 junction west of sherman lumber is being groomed as I write.
ITS 81 north from Sherman Station all the way to the Camp Violette road is in excellent shape. Don't forget the ongoing logging operation on the north end of the snowshoe road. They should be done there by next weekend.
Connector trail 112 west from patten is always real good. We have a groomer broke down about 1.5 miles west of the Happy Corner road. Watch for the cones. We should have it operational by tonight.
Connector trail 112 east, from Patten, towards Island Falls has one short, steep, winding and rough stretch near Crystal lake. Slow down and watch for washout holes.
Club trail 62 from 112 up to 81 north of Shin Pond is smooth and very scenic during the day. Watch out for log trucks as we are sharing some of this trail with them.
Club trail 64 from 81 just north of Patten (pub trail) has been done twice so it's a real good ride all the way to Shin Pond.
Club trail scenic 81A has been opened up and is passable but still a bit rough and winding in places. We will be grooming it again sometime this weekend. This trail has a lot of nice views of the surrounding mountains.
Due to the anticipated heavy travel this weekend, we will be out grooming each night through monday.
PLEASE... when you encounter a groomer, pullover and wait for the operator to show you what he wants done. These machines are overwidth (12 feet) and in many instances will take up most if not all of the trail.
Stay in control and as always RIDE RIGHT.
