Battery issue I think

Here is what I got and maybe some of you Ski-Doo owners can help me.

When I press my reverse button before I start the 2005 MXZ 600 SDI to prime the fuel rail the power does not come on.

I can still start the sled and it will still run but it runs a little rough.

If I charge the battery it does not hold a charge if sitting for more then a few days sitting in the garage.

The question I have is, once the sled it running is the batter really required? I know the older sleds did not use batteries but with the computer I am a little concerned.

Yes you need the battery. It its been sitting for a couple seasons it's probably dead, or nearly so. Those batteries aren't too $$. You can get them online or at Ed's Batteries in Westbrook.

Thanks Offshore. It has been sitting all last season. I am assuming it is the battery because it still runs. I am not going to drive to Westbrook for a battery though. Any idea where I might get one in the Lewiston/Auburn area other then the dealer? The dealer will probably charge me double.

you need a ytx4l-bs or equal motorcycle battery, unless it's electric start. try battery shops and motorcycle shops, and auto parts stores.

My son just called me from Etna and said my 600 Grand Touring had a dead battery and it wouldn't even start by pulling it. He jumped the battery and it started but did all kinds of stupid things until the battery was charged, No reverse, wouldn't rev up, refused to move by using the electronic reverse , etc.

Apparently they need a level of minimal voltage or they just don't act right. The 500 Grand Touring fired right up and ran like new but the 600 SDI apparently is a whole different animal.

Thanks everyone. The called VIP and they wanted a little over $100 for a battery. I found one at NAPA for about $52. I will get it later this week.
