Lets start a discussion on carb boots. I know lots of you must have heard about the "problem" . How many of you have had it and how many haven't even checked for it yet?
I haven't checked yet, but I will very soon. 3,800 miles on my '05 gade and so far no symptoms. Will need to dismantle intake to see what's what.

I have about that many miles on my MXZ too. What are these problems? I have not heard anything about them.

If you go over to Dootalk you'll get an ear full. Apparently the boots connecting the reedcages to the intake will split or break apart. Reasons vary depending on who you talk to. Bottom line is, if the boot disintegrates, cracks, whatever, you'll experience a lean seize condition. Enough of these seem to have happened since '03 that there's reason to take them off and look at them. Besides, reed petals don't last for ever either. If one of those cracks and pieces get into the cylinder, pop goes the weasel.
I know, I'm full of good news.:(

I believe this condition happened last winter to a buddy of mine while riding in the County . . . fortunately things worked out well enough as he was able to finish the ride with no problems and get the boots fixed.

I checked with the guy who winterizes and summerizes my sled and he confirmed that in this Fall alone he has seen 6 or 7 Revs with this problem . . . this reassured me since he is obviously looking for this problem.

That's good to know, for you. Deer season's almost over for me, then it's back to tinkering with snowmobiles. I've got new shocks and springs coming, tonight! I've got to replace a leaky exhaust valve boot. I've added removal and inspection of carb boots to the list. That's another $80 (I think per each!) for new carb boots, if they're bad. But this would be the time to find out, rather than while thundering across Eagle lake or bouncing thru Daigle.

It is a known problem just like the old stile rings but its just Internet hype ;)
I have V-Force 3 in my 800 spend a little extra and get the V3 reeds and boots.
Why just buy the same boot from Ski Doo and have the same thing happen.

Did you put the reeds in yourself?

Yes and do every thing else on it also I just don't trust any one else. I can do the work so I do. If something happens I only have one person to blame.
Replacing reed is a very simple job right behind servicing the chain case.
If any one needs any help just ask and I will do what I can.

You have my very interested. What do you have for a MXZ. If I remember right I believe you also have a 600SDI didn't you?

No SDI for me I have an 03 Blair Morgan 800. If I remember correctly you have an SDI if so a reed swap should be much easier to do no coolant running through the throttle body.

Can I get to the reeds and change them by just removing the throattle body?
I have never messed with reeds before. What advantage will I get by changing reeds.

Yes after the throttle body is of there 8 bolts that hold the cages on.

You wont notice any seat of the pants difference they give a little better midrange performance.
The big difference is the boots don't have to worry when the BRP boot will delaminate.

I changed over to VF3 reeds and boots. Ran 660 county miles last week. New intake noise is killer. Performance gains, none that I can see, which is consistent with experience of others. My old boots were still whole, with 5,000 mileas and 3 yrs on them. They did show signs of the metal inside the boot corroding.

I have an 05 600 SDI Renegade in my garage right now it started out as a simple ring swap now it much much more involved.
I will start from the air box there is more belt dust in the throttle bodies and reeds than I have ever seen now on the the reed boots they are complete junk soft an mushy and de-laminating not good he is very lucky it didn't have a complete melt down or worse. Not a big deal just needs some new V3 reeds well as soon as I got the jugs of i found the ring completely shot there was so much blow by you could see it on the sides of the piston ah the pistons will he needs those also PTO side piston skirt shows signs what I think is cold seizure. So now its a complete top end rebuild.
I forgot to mention about the exhaust bolts on MAG just finger tight and oil all over the place. I wont even get into what the clutches look like.
So do your self a favor and save you self some $$ check you exhaust bolt and inspect you carb boots.

Sucks for you. I mean it sincerely. I guess I'm just lucky cause the exhause bolts are fine, belt dust is under control (I put the SLP filter material over the holes in the side panel so any air from inside the engine compartement is filtered before it gets to the intake). I have yet to check the compression but I haven't had any change in performance. Is your Gade an early release (signified by red panels)? Early release '05's had the same issues as '03 and '04.
